Greeed Uva is an exclusive from the S.H. Figuarts line and retailed for around 3500 yen.

He’s one of the main bad guys from the series Kamen Rider OOO and this toy more or less represents his “completed” form.

In terms of sculpting & details, show accuracy, paint job and general aesthetics, Uva is terrific.

Articulation is also good. He’s able to assume most poses you’ll want from him. His feet could have been better articulated, but it’s not a deal breaker. They’re still pretty good. However, his hips are pretty loose. They’re firm enough that they don’t need fixing unless you want to, but given the firm fitting of previous Figuarts, this was a bit of a let down.

Uva comes with 3 extra right hands and 1 extra left hand. He also comes with 2 piles of cell medals/silver coins and an articulated figure display stand.

His accessory count is decent if he were a regular Figuarts release, but it’s somewhat limited considering he’s an expensive exclusive. It’s not the best bang for your buck.

His shoulder pads can also fairly easily pop off.

Overall I would not recommend Uva. He looks fantastic and he’s a decent toy. But he’s just a little too expensive for my taste. If you can find him for only a little more than the price of a regular Figuarts, then by all means, he’s not a bad purchase. But at full inflated pricing, he’s not quite worth the bones..

In Conclusion
I like this Cobra Commander. They really needed to do the paint apps for his eye differently, and the articulation count’s somewhat lacking. But he’s still a solid figure for a Cobra Commander and a representation of one of the few Cobra Commanders to really “work”. Recommended.

Origins
This Cobra Commander is from the 2012 Series 02 wave of G.I. Joe… despite this not being 2012 yet, but oh well. He’s a Renegades figure and is sold alongside the 30th Anniversary figures.

So, the Cobra Commander of the show (G.I. Joe: Renegades, natch) is rather cool. I think he might well be the most menacing CC we’ve ever gotten. He’s not the most physically imposing CC, in fact, he’s probably the least physically imposing one, considering he has GAWDS (Generic Anime Wasting Disease Syndrome). But the way he’s portrayed, he’s probably the Cobra Commander you’d least want to be stuck in a room with. I dig that about ‘im.

Review
Let’s compare Renegades CC to Resolute CC shall we? In terms of toy-ness, they’re both cool designs but have the coat skirt thingy which threatens to make them essentially unposable. Happily, Hasbro tried to get around the weakness of the design by giving Renegades CC’s lower coat a cut on either side and using somewhat bendable plastic for the coat flaps. Sadly, it’s only partially successful, but oh well, he’s still way more posable than Resolute CC.

Of course, the most controversial aspect of Renegades CC is the half masked head design. I admit that over time, I’ve grown used to it. And in fact, I rather like it. On the toy, it looks okay. It would look pretty fantastic but unfortunately, it seems the designers didn’t quite know which path to take CC’s aesthetic. His exposed half looks neither “realistic” nor “animated”. Actually, he looks like half a rejected head sculpt for an aborted Locutus (it’s a Star Trek ref) toy from the 90s.

Which is a shame, considering Renegades CC’s design is such that on a scaled down toy such as this 1/18th scale figure, it would look “realistic” even if they had gone for animation accurate. As it is, his head looks totally derpy on account of that giant people’s eyebrow. I have half a mind to try and remove it with a dab of acetone or something, but I’m afraid that might mess with the skin color of the rest of the head.

Speaking of which, the exposed head parts is a really really pale color that initially didn’t work for me. But under low lighting conditions, that paleness just goes from bland barely yellow to awesome corpse-y blue. As a result, I kind of like it. It’s not show accurate but eh, I can get down with zombie CC.

Of course, if you don’t dig the half exposed head at all, he comes with a full mask version. Once you put that on, he’ll look totally at home with all your other Joe figures. And while we’re at his extra head accessory, let’s talk his other accessories. He comes with a stand, a snake staff he can barely hold without it slipping off (this is the most disappointing thing to me, no, not that the staff isn’t held well, but that he didn’t come with a cane, which is what the cartoon version always had with him), a baby Serpentor and a gun. All in all, it’s a somewhat limited spread, especially considering the insane amounts of accessories that Joes tend to come with these days.

Articulation’s pretty good. As noted earlier, the legs are restricted, but not as bad as it could have been. And the upper body is unrestricted, so he’s quite posable there. All the Renegades figures also come with hinged and swivel wrists. The right hand can bend side to side while the left can flap up and down. CC’s advantage is that his long sleeves hide the hinges quite well, meaning his hands don’t look like he’s having a massive allergic reaction the way the other Renegades toys do.

OVERALL
This guy has his flaws, but if you’re a fan of the show and it’s incarnation of CC in particular, then he’s a good buy. Even if you’re not a fan of the half head, he comes with a perfectly serviceable full mask for all your CC needs.The lower accessory count reduces his bang for buck, especially when compared with the other Joe toys he’s being sold with, but even if he’s not on the top of your shopping list, he should probably be still on the list itself. A recommended toy.

Pros: Generally cool design. Decently articulated.
Cons: Paint deco for head. Lower accessories count.

Grade: B–

In Conclusion
Yeah, get this guy if you like his look. If his look just doesn’t do it for you, I can understand not wanting to drop the bones on ol’ Dann here. But he’s a SUPERBLY articulated figure as you’ll see in the review. Recommended.

Origins
Dann of Thursday is from the 2005 anime series “Gun X Sword”, which I believe was dubbed in English. I saw it via subs though. I’ll get into the details of that show when I eventually review it for Mecha Guignol, but suffice it to say, it was really rather good for what it was.

Review
Aesthetically, I was never particularly into Dann. In Gun X Sword, the mech design aesthetics jumped all over the place. We have the classic super robot Eldora V, the “primitive” steam punky mechs that early villains used and even Front Mission-ish types. In fact, the debut villain mech that the classic super robot style Eldora V fought was a somewhat Eva-ish cable/tentacle robot piloted by a mad scientist who looked suspiciously like some sorta Char/Dr. Horrible knockoff. It’s all rather Xenogears really.

Dann for his part, used a very “modern” design. He’s more of a humanoid blood bag filled with this glowy blue fluid with bits of armor stuck on than an actual mech. Sort of like if the Symbiotic Titan wore armor atop its energy-ish body.

But in toy form, Dann looks really good. His “under body” is actually made of translucent plastic, so it has that impression of fluidity. I wished it was more subject to light piping, but oh well.

Dann comes with 4 extra pairs of hands, a pair of extra long hoses to be attached to his legs so you can bend the legs further without fear of breakage (the default hoses are too short to accommodate extreme bends), a back blade piece and a pair of swords that can be combined to form a sword that barely looks any different than the regular bigger sword.

Okay, so… figure handling. When I first took him out, I had trouble standing him up because he has human shaped feet, much like say, the Busou Shinki. He also has a lot of fiddly bits. Not just the shoulder pieces, but on his chest and back as well.

He’s also… kinda totally badass in the posing department.

Like, if he was a donkey, he would be the kind to intentionally kick errant fire lamps about and set entire cities on fire. That’s one hella bad ass.

OVERALL
Dann looks good. And he has all the accessories he can reasonably be expected to have. But regardless of whether or not you’re a fan of the show, he’s one of those figures that you’ll want just for the fact that he’s a posing machine.

Pros: Looks good. Decent accessories. Highly posable.
Cons: Obscure character. Lots of fiddly parts.

Grade: B-

First up we have Dann of Thursday, of whom I hope to have a proper review for. Then there’s Renegades: Snake Eyes, who looks far better than I expected him to be.

Firefly and Cobra Commander, both from Renegades as well. I love the Firefly character from Renegades, despite him only appearing for one ep. CC’s a great CC. Aside from the Resolute CC and of course, the original G1 version (and arguably the live action movie version), he’s the only other CC to really “work”.
