MRS Kabuto

Grandma said there’d be days like this, there’d be days like this, Grandma said.

Toy Story
Kabuto is from the 2006-2007 series of Kamen Rider, Kamen Rider Kabuto. This particular version is from the “Best Selection” wave of Motion Revive Series, which re-releases a bunch of the main Riders from various series. There are only 6 characters in this set, with no secret figure.

Aesthetics
As his name suggests, Kamen Rider Kabuto’s leitmotif is that of the Kabuto Beetle, or Rhino Beetle. The head design is pretty cool, although for me, I personally find the eyes a tad doofy due to their size, but overall I don’t have any real complaints. Much like Gatack, I find the entire body design of Kabuto to be pretty awesome. The plated armor for the torso is almost Mandolarian-esque.

I don’t have the original Motion Revive Kabuto, but supposedly, the Best Selection version here has a more vibrant red. The paint job on the body of this guy is impeccable, but the paint apps for the head on my piece is a tad off. Nothing significant, but I’m not used to my MRS not having perfect paint apps.

Articulation
Kabuto has your standard MRS articulation.

Balljoint at base of neck (1).
Double balljointed pectorals/shoulders (5)
Swivel upper biceps (7)
Double jointed elbows (11)
Swivel wrists (13)
Balljointed mid-torso (14)
Balljointed hips (16)
Swivel upper thighs (18)
Double jointed knees (22)
Balljointed feet (24)

Much like Kuuga, Kabuto’s streamlined aesthetics means that he is able to take full advantage of MRS articulation. And MRS articulation is impressive indeed, as you’ll see from the pics. As per usual, all poses are unsupported. No clay is used to help Kabuto and Hibiki (purple dude) to achieve their poses. What you see is what you get.

Accessories
Kabuto comes with a pointy finger hand to strike his signature “pointing toward the heavens”-pose, an extra pair of closed fists to go with his holdy hands, an unpainted gun (that looks like an axe), and as you can see, a gold trimmed dagger. All in all, it’s pretty decent for a MRS. I have no room for complaint.

Overall
Motion Revive Series (Best Selection) Kamen Rider Kabuto is about as good as it gets with MRS figures. He has a nice design that’s show accurate with generally great paint apps. He’s articulated out the wazoo and he’s even got a decent set of accessories to boot.
